Dalton collaborated with stop-motion animation pioneer Harryhausen on his 2002 autobiography, An Animated Life. In this companion volume, the pair have foregone the chronological arrangement of the last book in favor of a thematic organization that offers better insight into the genesis of Harryhausen's creatures, which appear in Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts, and other classic films. All phases of creation are represented here in color images, from the initial rough sketches and storyboards to the latex models with metal armatures that appeared in the film. The book also displays many models that were cast in bronze. Fans of Harryhausen may be especially interested in drawings of monsters that never appeared in films, and the photographic depiction of how the size and movements of live actors were coordinated with those of the models. Throughout the book, Harryhausen reflects on the theme at hand, be it dinosaurs, aliens, or mythical legends. Director Peter Jackson authored the foreword. The book measures 10x11.5".
