Freelance comic book artist Stangeland gives an account of early Hollywood star William (1894-1948), from his family history (Stangeland relates a surprising amount of genealogy), to his years on the stage, and finally to his career in Hollywood and his untimely death of cancer. The text includes both publicity photos and many candid shots of William, most famous for his roles in The Lone Wolf series and the recipient of one of the first stars on the Walk of Fame. Stangeland also ponders the question of why we remember certain actors while so many are forgotten to time. The film buff will find this a comprehensive and compelling read.
