Fascinating story with a shocking twist by mekiser |
| I picked up this book because it looked like a lovely, peaceful book about privileged children attending a boarding school in the idyllic English countryside. And it is. I soaked in every word as the author, speaking in the first person of a female looking back on her earlier years, describes in elegant detail the life she led cocooned in a school for very special children. And eventually, one of the teachers calmly describes the students' purpose for being there, which everyone basically has understood but which was never clearly stated to them, until now. And my jaw must have dropped wide open because I never expected this twist in the story. The author establishes himself as the master of understatement in this beautifully written novel about the life we accept. I will never forget this story. |

Too Slow by heather.volmerding |
| While I finished the book, there were many moments when I really wanted to put it down. I kept hoping for a surprise or twist, but there was none. Yes, these children were raised for the purpose of organ donation, but that fact was known almost throughout the book. It was revealed so slowly, that it never really grabbed your attention. To slow of a read, not recommended... |

Prachtig, zowel de film als het boek by evalienlang |
| Fascinerend en ontroerend verhaal. Grote aanrader! In dit geval is de verfilming ook goed gelukt, ook hier te leen. |
